We caught up with Rob Leggett who recently had the PrograMill PM5, our precise and efficient, wet, and dry milling machine, installed into his lab.
Tell us a little about yourself and your lab?
My name is Robert Leggett, I qualified as a Dental Technician in 1997 from Edinburgh’s Telford college. In February 2009 I returned to study a diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, the first course to be run in the UK, the awarding body being the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
What initially made you want to purchase the PrograMill PM5?
In January 2013 we began Scottish Denture Clinic in Edinburgh providing denture services directly to the public and lab work to dentists.
What services / materials will you be offering with the new milling machine?
The PrograMill PM5/7 are the only milling machines on the market that allows us to do a truly monolithic digital denture.
It has been the last piece in the puzzle to allow us to do a digital workflow from start to finish and allowing us to produce the Ivotion denture. The Ivotion system enables us to produce consistently high quality dentures made with quality materials meeting our patients high expectations.
How has our installation and support been so far?
The installation was excellent, we have installed milling machines in our lab before but never with the detail and organisation experienced using Ivoclar.
The process was stress free.
How do you expect the PM5 change your workflow?
I expect our workflow to change dramatically using the PM5, we will reduce and eventually stop using labour intensive and inconsistent analogue techniques which have been the mainstay in denture construction for 50 years.
By purchasing the PM5, Is this your first venture into Digital Dentures?
We have been designing dentures digitally for 12 months using 3 shape software and printing.
What would have been a concern that would have prevented you from buying this, and what put your fears to rest?
I was concerned about how the ivotion dentures would look, so I researched and outsourced a case to ensure it lived up to our high standards.
What would you say to technicians who are considering purchasing the PM5?
I would encourage any lab to look at this technology, it is undoubtedly the future for dentures in our opinion.
